Paul came up to Watkins Glen and was absolutely flying- in qualifying he was over 2 seconds ahead of Joe, who was slightly ahead of me. Paul won Saturday's race handily, but Joe and I had a good battle for second with Joe coming out ahead by six tenths of a second after 44 miles. Sunday's race was similar, Paul won again, with me second just a tenth of a second ahead of Joe after 44 miles.
I won both races by a good margin with Joe in second and Keith in third.
Scott and Paul came to Summit Point to give me some serious competition, and they did not disappoint. Paul and I qualified right around the track record, and Scott was nearly a second under it! In the first race, Scott left us behind and set a new track record, Paul got second and I was third. In Sunday's race, Scott won again, I was second, Paul was third.
Having been out of the car for 9 months my qualifying speed wasn't quite up to pace - I qualified 7th, behind several guys I normally beat. For the Saturday race, I got my act together and made my way up to 3rd. Had I started in a better position I may have had something for Paul, but Scott was in a league of his own out front.
For Sunday's race, Paul picked up the pace and had a good battle for the win with Scott, but Scott prevailed. A Formula Mazda got between me and Paul, and I finished 3rd.
